Durante este semestre tive a espectacular oportunidade de viver um bocadinho do Erasmus na minha própria cidade. Quando voltei do Brasil inscrevi-me no Buddy Program. Uma das perguntas que me fizeram na hora da inscrição foi em que línguas conseguia comunicar. Pouco confiante das habilidades no inglês, resolvi colocar: "português, espanhol e inglês, apesar de o inglês ser muito fraco talvez consiga comunicar, quanto mais não seja através de gestos".
Pensei que seria suficiente para que não tivesse de falar inglês. Calhar-me-ia algum espanhol, argentino, peruano, uruguaio, brasileiro... mas enganei-me. Uns meses mais tarde recebia o seguinte e-mail:
"Caro estudante,
No seguimento da sua inscrição para o Programa “Buddy - Adopta um Estrangeiro”, vimos informar que lhe foram atribuídos os seguintes estudantes:

Começou assim. Começou assim aquele que viria a ser o meu primeiro semestre de Erasmus na minha própria cidade. Olho hoje para trás pensando que há muitas coisas que poderia ter feito de maneira diferente, mas sinto ao mesmo tempo, que ganhei amigos durante estes seis meses. Não apenas os dois que ajudei, mas bastantes outros.
Agradeço a todos eles (Polacos, Holandeses, Alemães, Italianos, Franceses, Checos...) o que me ensinaram e peço-lhes desculpa por não ter agido mais cedo. Certamente que não cometerei os mesmos erros com os próximos colegas de Erasmus. Os primeiros jogo e jantar serão realizados MUUUUUUUUUUITO mais cedo do que desta vez.
Permitam-me infiltrar-me um pouco no sentimento do vosso Erasmus: eu próprio sinto que irão embora peças importantes desta cidade. Não sei como será sair à noite sem a certeza de encontrar pelo menos um de vocês. Partam, porém, com uma certeza: a de que serão bem recebidos quando regressarem.
E, deixo-vos eu partir, também, com um desejo: de que voltem depressa!

When I returned from Brazil I signed up for the Buddy Program. One of the questions they asked me at the time of enrollment was: "in which languages are you able to communicate?". Thus began. Thus began my first semester of Erasmus in my own city. I look back now thinking that there are many things I could have done differently but I feel, at the same time, that I gained some friends during these six months.
I thank all of them (Poles, Dutch, Germans, Italians, French, Czech...) what they taught me and I ask excuse for not having acted sooner. Certainly i'll not make the same mistakes with my next Erasmus friends. The first match and dinner will be held much earlier than this semester.
Let me just feel like you feel today: I feel that all of you are a really important part of my city. I can't even imagine how will be to go out knowing that I'll not find any of you... Part, however, with a certainty: you will always be welcome when you return to my (and your) city.
I say goodbye with hope that I will see you again soon.
